Our Clay Block Build
The Project: Our own family build - 'Our Clay Block Home'
The Brief: To build a solid sustainable family home within a moderate budget, incorporating lots of natural organic materials and tones.
This home is being constructed using a self-insulating low emission, sustainable clay block known as Porotherm. The intention is to create a home that is both functional & made to last, with a strong influence of contemporary/industrial interior design.
While this project is in the construction phase, I have drawn up the 3d interior design with an emphasis on the best use of space planning. With ceilings ranging between 3 and 4 meters high, being clever with storage space will help to accommodate our family of 5. In the one of the rooms, custom bunk beds have been designed in size 'double' to both work on a day to day basis but also create extra sleeping arrangements when the need should arise. Custom joinery has been designed to fit the walk in wardrobe off the master bedroom. The living has a custom unit to disguise the TV when not in use, which also creates another huge storage functionality and sits atop of a concrete hearth/bench seat that runs the length of the wall.
The kitchen has been designed to make the most of the 6 meter wall it backs on to and a large storage bank runs along the hallway with a simple built in desk and shelves creating a little office nook.
The overall scheme includes colours textures and tones in concrete, wood-grain, black and a 'Venetian look' lime washed plaster in white.
Having plans drawn up whilst you are in the process of a renovation or build, makes decisions and eliminations so much easier, you know exactly what your getting and exactly the look you want. It also provides your trades with further detailed drawings when it comes to anything custom or higher specked, and I find it an invaluable skill set for my clients.
